Skincare is a personal issue. Many women spend thousands of dollars each year on moisturizers, face wash, toners, and astringents in an effort to keep their skin looking fresh and young. The trouble is that some skincare products can cause problems that are worse than the signs of aging. If you are like most women, you want to use skincare products that won’t harm your skin and will give you noticeable results.

You should read the label on skincare products carefully and cut down on the guessing. Sometimes the ingredient you think is good actually has a bad effect. Unless you have an advanced degree in molecular biology or a background in Latin, reading the ingredient list on skincare products can be like reading a foreign language.

One common skincare product that you should avoid is fragrance oils, which can cause allergic reactions and are listed as “essential oils.” Essential oils are concentrated plant fragrances. Some of the worst fragrance ingredients include eucalyptus, pine, anise, orange, and clove. In addition, it is not recommended that you use alcohol-based toners or astringents to cleanse your face.

Although you want your skin to look flawless, you don’t want any skincare products on your face to block the pores through which the skin is cleaned. Makeup usually contains ingredients that block pores, too. Most cosmetic manufacturers claim that mineral makeup doesn’t clog pores, but many women have suffered from mineral oil, which is a by-product of the process used to extract gold from rocks. It usually found in makeup compactions and is difficult to remove without using a special cleanser.

When looking for skincare products, you may be tempted to buy a few of each, until you find one that suits you best. Some people find that they use the same moisturizer on both their face and shoulders, and others find that they can only wear waterproof makeup for certain seasons. If you find yourself with multiple products on your face, take a minute to read the label and see if any of them could cause irritation. Moisturizers, toners, and face masks that contain alcohol can make your skin more easily irritated, so stick to water-based or fragrance-free products whenever possible.

There are many different types of skincare products that work best for dry, oily skin. If you suffer from acne outbreaks, consider using a facial cleanser specifically formulated for oily skin. To keep your skin fresh and hydrated all day long, be sure to use a toner that will remove make-up before bedtime. To keep your skin supple and smooth, apply a nighttime moisturizer that contains natural ingredients like olive oil, coconut oil, or aloe vera. To get the most out of your skincare products, choose products that have natural ingredients and do not contain harmful chemical ingredients.
